Mission: Suicidal Running Title
=*=Captain's Ready Room=*=
Acting Captain Mark Rhodes sat at his desk after his discussion with the Chief of Security. "Commander, could you join me join me in my ready room. I need to speak with you," he said opening a comm channel.
Karim, who had been en route to the bridge already, replied "On my way sir. Dhej out." Soon, he was at the door and rang the chime. Entering, he said "Reporting as ordered sir."
Mark sat in his chair and waited for Dhej to stand before his desk. "Have a seat, please," said Mark. "I had heard there was an altercation on the station. I need to know what happened before I start speaking with other members of the crew."
Nodding, Karim sat, and replied "I'm honestly trying to piece a lot of it together myself sir. I was at a stall across the hall from where Tierney, sorry, Lieutenant Commander Rinehart was standing. I was looking at maps of this region of space. Everything happened so fast. I heard the sound of the shot, and people screaming. I tried to get to Doctor Rogers and Commander Rinehart before the weapon discharged, but the crowd was panicking and I couldn't do so. I'm so sorry sir."
"Doctor Rogers was not with Lt Lucas?" asked Mark.
Shaking his head, he replied "I don't believe so sir. I overheard her speaking with Rinehart, and didn't see Lucas anywhere nearby."
"The station staff did not intervene did they?" asked Mark.
"No." he replied "From what I could see they didn't even attempt to calm the crowd. I could see a few of them standing off to the sides watching however."
"Interesting. I find it interesting they were so serious about rules, but when two of our people get shot by a bounty hunter and its fine," said Mark. "I guess I need to speak with Lucas to figure out where she was. Did you obtain any star charts for the surrounding area?"
Smiling very slightly, he replied "Yes sir. I had to pay a bit more then I wanted for them, but they've been sent to Stellar Cartography to authenticate and add to our navigational systems."
"Fantastic," said Mark. "I have to check with medical to see how things are coming with getting the supplies we need. Is there anything else you can think we need before we depart?"
"No sir." he replied, then added "Can I speak freely sir?"
"By all means," said Mark.
Sighing, not sure how to explain what he was thinking, he replied after a moment "I have some concerns about Doctor Rogers and Commander Rinehart. Maybe its nothing, but Rogers reluctance to go aboard the station unarmed was reckless and dangerous. I know we can't change the past, but perhaps if she was armed this tragedy wouldn't have happened. As for Rinehart, she was in extreme shock the last time I saw her, and was concerned she had put the ship at risk due to the ... perpetrator targeting her. I am unsure how to feel about all of this. If I could only have been near them, maybe I could've done something."
"I have serious concerns about Doctor Rogers and her behavior as of late. If she left Lt Lucas that is a serious problem. Update our perimeters, any personnel disembarking will carry a side arm. I will speak with Rinehart, assure her everything will be alright, she could be in shock. We need to keep an eye out for any other hunters after our crew. Increase security at the gangway," said Mark. "I think I should speak with Lt Lucas about what happened, would you see to it that we get increased security at the gangway?"
"Of course sir. I will see to it. Please let me know how you would like to proceed with Rogers. Would you like me to take the conn sir while you are busy?"
"Indeed," said Mark standing. "Thank you Commander."
Nodding, he stood as well and said "I'll see you soon sir. Good luck."
"Don't break my boat, Ill be a grumpy Captain," said Mark with a grin.
Smiling, Karim left the ready room, en route to the command chair.
