Mission:
Reconstruction and Refocus
Location: Various Locations
=*= Quarters, SS Prometheus =*=
Maria was in her quarters on the survey ship Prometheus it was on its way back to Earth after several survey missions which were all classified and all assignments were independent so that no one would know what exactly the overall mission was. Sitting at the small table in her quarters she looked at a thin box that had a dwindling number of phials in it which housed a almost blood looking substance.
=*= Bridge, SS Prometheus =*=
T'Shonra was sitting on the bridge of the surveyor as it dropped out of warp just outside of Saturn. "Ma'am we have an incoming message from Utopia Planetia Shipyard." The communications officer said before looking at his console again, "......my apologies they are connecting us with the USS Enterprise."
"Put it through lieutenant." T'Shonra said wondering what was going on seeing as her mission was to report directly to Starfleet Science.
=*= Bridge, USS Enterprise =*=
A young round-faced yellow clad yeoman, "Yes, this is the USS Enterprise at drydock, Earth, looking to speak with the commanding officer of the SS Prometheus?"
"I am the commanding officer of the Prometheus. Lieutenant commander T'Shonra. May I ask what this is about?" She asked sounding somewhat annoyed with this delay.
"The uh-" started the Yeoman nervously. "Outgoing Director of Starfleet Science made a few adjustments to postings of Science Officers passing through the sector. As you may or may not know, your ship uh- has one of our new Science Officers here on the Enterprise..."
"May I see those orders?" T'Shronra asked, "if you could send them over. Also I would like to talk to your captain."
A moment of silence passed as the Yeoman transferred the orders and called up Captain Coo. Stepping into the view of the view screen, "This is Captain Coo, how may I be of assistance Captain?"
T'Shonra quickly looked over the orders T'Shonra noticed something odd. "You Captain, are the outgoing Director? Doesn't seem bit of a......how do you Humans say a conflict of interest?"
"I do apologize for my indiscretion," said Rozen flatly. There was no need to project a sense of emotion, it would do nothing to help him in a conversation with a Vulcan, other than a passing judgement or three from the lieutenant commander.
He continued flatly, "however, with a ship such as this, preparing to head to the edge of the map, logically it is in the best interest of the fleet to assign competent and knowledgeable officers to such a position. As the outgoing Director of Starfleet Science, I found myself in a very unique opportunity to bring the very best with us to the edges of the unknown. Not just benefiting this ship, but the Fleet as a whole."
Logically T'Shonra had no ground on to stand or argue for that matter. Orders were orders. "Understood. I'll have Ensign Lionza to you within a few hours." T'Shrona said nodding for the helm officer to start docking procedures.
When the comm link was deactivated Rozen took a long slow exhale. He had worked with Vulcans long enough to know the tricks of the trade, but it still occasionally made him uneasy.
"Yeoman Solverson, please inform me when the Ensign arrives. I would like a word," said Rozen stepping back into his office.
"Understood sir," she responded before the door closed.
=*= Quarters, SS Prometheus =*=
"Ensign Lionza you have been transferred." The quartermaster said setting a PADD onto the table. "You are being transferred to the USS Enterprise. You have an hour to collect anything you can carry while the rest of your belongings well be moved over to the Enterprise." With that the quartermaster left leaving Maria in a semi state of shock before she stood and just automatically started collecting her belongings.
=*= Ready Room, USS Enterprise =*=
Didn't take long for Maria to arrive on the Enterprise. Most of her belongings were put into footlockers while some of her PADDs and her hand terminal and some iso chips and data cubes along with her thing silver box were placed in her satchel. Hitting the chime on the ready room she took a second to look around the bridge nothing one of the security officers watching her.
"Come" called Captain Coo from within, pouring over status reports from almost every department.
Maria entered and stood at attention at the front of the desk. "Ensign Maria Lionza reporting for duty." She said holding out her orders.
"Ah Ensign Lionza," said Rozen as he rose out of his chair. He extended a hand for a handshake, "A pleasure to meet you, allow me to introduce myself: Captain Rozen Coo."
"Thank you captain. Ummm......my apologies but I am not up for a transfer for at least another 3 months." Maria asked sounding confused on how this happened.
"And I am a point in my career where I should be chained to a desk at Starfleet, but here we are," he said with a wide smile, gesturing to one of the chairs in front of his desk while having a seat in his.
Maria took a seat returning the smile. "I know we just met but I don't see you being stuck behind a desk. I see you as a Picard type." Maria said with her own smirk.
Rozen quickly put both hands on his head, milling them about. "Not a hair out of place... Don't scare me like that," he said with a smirk. "Well perhaps you are curious as to why you are sitting in this office, on this ship, in front of this Captain...?"
"A bit." Maria said removing her satchel and setting it in the empty seat next to her.
"Well luckily the former Director of Starfleet Science took notice of your budding career," replied Rozen. "And I happen to be close with the former Director," he said with a smirk as he took a sip out of his tea cup on his desk.
Maria nodded. "My career has really just started. Mostly doing surveying work which has to be just as dry if not more dry reading as it is writing those reports."
"But your discovery of the Delta Radiation Discharge from a star by analyzing tree cambium, in a system we were preparing to terraform 2 planets? I notice a catch like that..." said Rozen. "Just because you are starting your career, doesn't mean you can't be making a name for yourself?"
"Thank you," Maria said blushing slighting her pale skin making it look even brighter red than it really was. ".....it was nothing. You just need to pay attention and double check everything."
"Yes, but do you know how many other scientists looked at the same results, to no avail? It takes that spark, that something extra. And to be frank I see that in you ensign," said Rozen with a gleam in his eye. "Are you up to that challenge?"
Maria just smiled still blushing. "Of course!" Maria said sounding more excited than she ever did on her previous assignment.
"Fantastic," replied Rozen. "Settle in, and get started. We will make for the Gamma Quadrant in the next day or two. A full briefing to follow once we are underway."
"Alright." Maria said feeling a bit overwhelmed and anxious on not having enough of a certain something. "Are we free to go off ship prior to departure?"
"If you have any business to take care of, yes. However you need to be back on board 24 hours from now," replied Rozen.
"I'll be back in plenty of time," Maria said, "......I just need to deal with some personal things."
"By all means. Thats all I have for you Ensign, unless you have anything, you are dismissed," said Rozen looking over his tea cup again as he took another drink.
"Not right now. Once the briefing is over I'll have a better idea of what I am needed to do." Maria said standing and grabbing her bag. "I look forwarded to serving you on our missions."
"Thank you Ensign, dismissed," said Rozen shifting his gaze from the standing officer to the padds spread before him on his desk.
With that Maria disappeared past the doors and headed for the lift again deciding quarters for a quick change and than back to the station.
