Mission: Reconstruction and Refocus
Location: Science Department

Excitement bubbled within Ayissa's chest as she wended her way through the Science Department. Her new department. It was an odd, but welcome feeling; if mildly overwhelming. A quick read on the way to the ship had informed her, at least in name, of who she would be working with. Now she sought out her new superior, intent and hopeful to establish herself quickly.

Jason was in the office that Lt Cmdr Alexandrov had told him to use since being named as Asst Chief of Science. Alexandrov seemed oddly distracted at this time, choosing to delegate his to Jason rather than doing things himself. Jason didn't mind, looking on this as a chance to show what he could do. The door chimed, indicating a presence behind it, "Come in" he commanded with a friendly, yet decisive tone.

Slipping through the door quickly, Ayissa gave a short salute to the superior officer.

"Hello Ensign, what can I do for you?" he said to the young woman before him.

"Reporting in for duty, Sir. Ensign Ayissa Kharg, freshly assigned. Wanted to check in before I actually start active duty."

"Excellent! Nice to meet you Ensign Kharg, what's your favorite part of science? Do you have a favorite?"

"Botany." was answered swiftly and decisively to the question, though quickly followed by a slight, dismissive shrug. "But I consider that a product of my upbringing. I am also quite happy in other aspects, though would still say that my strongest inclination would be towards the grouping of earth science."

"I see, and how do you feel about being on the Enterprise?"

"Are you kidding?" Ayissa exclaimed, her expression lighting up. "I never could have expected it. Especially so fresh out of the gate? I'm thoroughly amazed and delighted."

Jason recognized the excitement the himself had felt upon joining the ship, even if it hadn't been entirely his choice initially. "Good to hear, were your parents Starfleet too? I'm sure they're proud regardless"

"Nope. First generation to go through the Academy. But they run a private Terraforming company. Grew up amidst soil samples and hydroponics systems and all that." the half-Klingon expounded, giving a small dismissive wave of her hand. "Though I know for sure they'd be blind with envy, seeing all the equipment we have."

"We'll I won't keep you Ensign, you better get to Botany, unless you'd prefer Planetary Sciences? I think I have a spot in either"

"I'll probably go occupy the Botany section for now. But I am quite flexible, should you find you need me anywhere else." Ayissa mused, "At least get my toes wet in something I am most comfortable in."

"Good that's sorted, just introduce yourself to the CPO down there and I'm sure we'll gave you settled in no time. We'll be having a meeting soon, so I'll invite you to that as well"

"Sure thing. Sounds grand! I suppose I will see you then, Sir." Kharg nodded, taking the implied dismissal, and turning to make her exit.

As Kharg reached the door Jason added, "Ensign?" She turned, "Welcome aboard again" he said again with a smile.

Glancing over her shoulder, Ayissa flashed a grin and a brief wink as she stepped through the door. "Thank you. I'm sure it's going to be an adventure."

Once the doors were closed he paused a second and reflected, things were coming together nicely down in science.
