Valok let out a quiet Betazoid curse as he read through one of the mountain of padds beside him on his desk. The initial intensive scans had given his department at lot of information. Now it was up to him to take what was important from each report, and collate it into something he could present to the XO. It was long and annoying work. What made it even harder was that some of his staff were more wordy in their reports, and would give every minute detail, while others would give a brief description, then a load of data. Tossing the latest report to the read pile, he stood and stretched.

Feeling his back twinge at the action, he decided to take a break. Walking over to the replicator, he said "Computer Vulcan spiced tea, hot." Moments later the beverage appeared, and he took a sip. Tea, he knew, would always help him relax. It would also give him a chance to clear his mind. Walking around in front of the replicator, he let his mind randomly think about some of the reports he was reading.

Sudden inspiration struck him, and regardless if it was a waste of time, he decided to try anyways. Clearing his throat, he said "Computer, based on the reports submitted about the energy field, hypothesise if the phenomena is likely to be a natural occurring one." He waited for a few moments while the computer worked, and sipped more of his tea. Moments later he heard "There is a 35% probability that the phenomena is naturally occurring. More information is needed to confirm this hypothesis." Nodding, he then said "Operating on the assumption that the energy field is artificial, theorise on how it could be generated." Another long moment he heard "More information is needed to form a detailed theory, but based on current information, a large power source would be needed to generate the field."

Resisting the urge to thank the computer, he rushed back to his desk and began going through the reports he'd already collated. It was stretch for sure, but with a lot more work, he could operate on the assumption that the field was artificial. If he did so, perhaps it would help him develop some theory he could bring forward. He knew that if he kept reading through the reports without a theory in mind, it would get him no where. With a small smile, he grabbed a report off the unread pile and began reading.
