Mission: Where no man has gone before.
Scarlet enjoyed being in the gym by herself, she wasn't a fan of even the slightest chance of being judged. She smiled to herself and stretched out before hopping onto the treadmill for her daily run. She set it to a slow jogging pace.
Eric entered the gym at this point, expecting it to be empty, but was shocked to discover that it wasn't. Over on the treadmill was the CMO herself, the very last person he wanted to run into - given her apparent dislike of him. He turned to leave.
Scarlet spotted him out of the corner of her eye and jumped out of her skin, falling off the treadmill. With a curse she blushed at the embarrassment.
At the sound of the commotion, Eric sighed and turned around to spot Scarlet sprawled on the ground. "You're supposed to run on the machine, not fly off it."
"Yes," Scarlet groaned, reaching up to the wall for support to pick herself up, "I am fully aware, but I saw something move out of the corner of my eye, you, and it startled me." Doctor Rogers smiled halfheartedly.
"Frighten easily, do you doc?" He teased her.
"Sadly," she smiled, "I deal with blood and guts on a daily basis, not much surprises me. But sneak up on me, and I'll have a heart attack." Scarlet pulled herself up to her feet and brushes her knees off.
"I'll make a note of that, should I feel the need to be rid of you." Eric smiled a mock-sinister smile.
"It's the sad and awkward moment, when I'm unsure if you're being serious," The young doctor appeared nervous, "I know we haven't got along as we probably should, but still."
"Well, to date, I haven't murdered anyone." Eric said. "But the day is still young."
"I'm sure you have," Scarlet still remained cautious, "But it wouldn't have been classed as murder, just killing someone."
"Oh well then." Eric smiled. "Can't have that now, can we?"
"Can't have what," Scarlet started treading backwards slowly.
"Me killing random members of my crew." He smiled. "People would talk."
Scarlet was still very wary and remained quiet.
Eric chuckled to himself, having thoroughly terrified his CMO. "Oh don't worry, I eat what I kill, and I'm not hungry enough to eat you all up."
The CMO's fear soon changed to confusion and somewhat disgust. Her complexion seemed to turn much paler than normal.
He was having a hell of a time, because she just seemed so gullible. Payback was a bitch, wasn't it, doc? He smirked. "I'll leave you to your workout, Commander. Want you nice and toned when I decide to wolf you down."
Scarlet read the man's expression but didn't let him catch on, "Captain, can I ask you something?"
"What's that, Commander?" Eric asked.
"Do you want fries with that?" She smirked.
"Oh yes, and a shake." He grinned. "Ginger always leaves a strong aftertaste."
"Once you go ginger, you never go back," she giggled and reached for her water bottle.
"Don't tempt me." He smirked, and made a move to leave the gym. "Better get ready, you'll be going on an away mission in a few hours."
"You said it yourself, sir," she smiled and she bent down to do up a lace on her shoe that had come undone, "You have no interest." she stood back up straight, "Did you not come in here to work out? I'm only here for another four and a half miles and then I'm gone."
"Nah, I'll work out plenty when you and your fat-ass are off my ship." He grinned. "Better make that nine miles, Doc."
Scarlet threw her water bottle at the captain, skimming it off his ear and shoulder, "I am not fat, sir! I have worked hard to lose that over the years. I do not need to be put down by narcissistic personnel again."
Eric had avoided being hit by the bottle by the skin of his ear... literally. This clearly was a discipline issue, but he wasn't going to bite at her, as he did essentially provoke her. He hadn't realized quite what a sore spot her weight was. "You're right, you're not." He said, calmly. "My apologies, doctor." He said, and gave a small bow of contrition. "I will disturb you no longer."
Scarlet turned very pale after realizing what she had just done, but tried to stand her ground, "Thank you, sir."
He gave a weak smile, and left the gym.
The CMO slumped against the wall and fell to the floor her head in her hands. She cursed at herself. If her and the Captain's relationship didn't get better soon, it would be very clear she would not have a place on this ship much longer, be it through cannibalism or other means.
