Mission: Suicidal Running Title

Fabla continued to wander the ship after leaving sickbay, now with some information to chew on, and further reading on it for later. Armed with the information that she had access to the computer on this ship, she decided to ask it where the crew gathered when they weren't working or in their quarters. The computer suggested either the holodeck or a lounge called Shakers. Fabla decided the lounge presented more opportunities to meet people, and followed the guidance on the computer displays that lined the corridors.

She entered the lounge and stood by the door a moment taking in all the different people within. She felt a little out of place, since a lot of them were in their starfleet uniform, but if all of them were as nice as Dr. Rogers then Fabla thought everything should be okay. When the bartender's showmanship mixing drinks caught her attention, she made her way to the bar to watch.

Nanee was sitting at the bar nursing a Jack n' Coke. Her shift was long and slow. Very different from a graveyard or even normal shift from a station posting where you've got a large civilian population to deal with. She still had her medical scrubs on she spending most of her time staring at her drink.

Fabla settled on a stool at the bar, only briefly noticing the person one stool over was in scrubs. She watched fascinated at the jewel colored bottles the bar tender juggled, making drinks for people. She settled with her chin on her hand, waving the bar tender off with a grin when asked what she was drinking.

"Is it not beautiful?" Fabla said with a laugh, not really speaking to anyone.

Looking up when she heard the voice. "The man, or the drinks he's making?" Nanee asked, chuckling slightly at her own question. "Then again, both I guess are beautiful."

Fabla was jarred out of her fascinated gaze at the alcohol bottles, and her face flushed a deeper green a moment as her eyes drifted over the bar tender. "I had not thought to look at the man," she admitted softly. "Though he is pleasing." She smiled shyly when he glanced her way as she said that.

Taking a couple more sips of her drink before Nanee spoke again. "That he is." Nanee said smirking.

Fabla looked at the woman, one eyebrow raised with curiosity. "I am Fabla," she introduced herself, holding out a delicate hand to shake.

"Nanee." Nanee said taking the Orion's hand and giving her a light shake. And giving the bartender a nod for another Jack n' Coke.

"Can I get something bright and colorful?" Fabla asked before the bartender moved to make Nanee's drink. She received a smile for her troubles. "Are you a doctor?" Fabla directed at Nanee, glancing at the scrubs again.

"I am indeed a doctor." Nanee said looking Fabia trying to sense what department she was in. "Are you a member of the crew?" Nanee asked still working on familiarizing herself with the crew.

"Oh, um, I came with the Freighter. Lieutenant Commander Tierney said I report to her, but I'm just a civilian," Fabla explained. The bartender returned with the women's drinks, smiling at them both as he set them in front of them.

"Thank you..." Nanee said giving the bartender a flirtatious grin. "Ah yes... the freighter with the Ferengi captain?"

Fabla giggled, shaking her head. "Oh no, Nug just sold the ship to Tierney, she is the captain." Fabla took a sip of the neon colored drink in the stemware the bartender had left for her. "This is so sweet," she observed, with a grin. She plucked the cherry out of it, and popped it into her mouth.

"So our chief intelligence is a ship owner as well." Nanee said, nodding her head finding that concept a bit odd. "Well stranger things have happened I suppose."

"Intelligence?" Fabla made a curious face, not sure what to make of the word in the context Nanee used it. She ran her finger around the lip of her glass as she considered it.

"It's a department on a starship like medical. But I don't really know what they do." Nanee said shrugging and taking a couple of sips of her drink. Then setting it down and spinning the glass on the counter top.

"That must be weird, not knowing what a whole department does," Fabla mused, tapping on her glass. "I mean, I could see not knowing how to do their job, but not even knowing what they do." She shook her head, taking another sip of her drink.

Nanee shrugged, "it is but I suppose it's the nature if the beast."

Fabla nodded, unsure what to say to that. She sipped at her drink, her attention drifting back to the bar tender for a little bit. She looked at Nanee again. "What do you do for entertainment?" Fabla had never had to worry about occupying her time, her owners had determined what she did with her time, so now that she was in control of her fate, she had no idea how to fill her time.

"Reading, watching or running dark macabre comedies holo-novels. Similar to Alice in Wonderland or something similar to that. You?" Nanee asked.

"Holo-novel?" Fabla scrunched her face as she considered what that could be. "Is that something for the holodeck?"

Nanee just looked at Fabla trying to gauge if she was joking or not. "Shit.....your not joking, you actually don't know what a holo-novel is." Nanee said, surprised by this fact. "Yes, it's for the holodeck. Think of it as a on-going holoprogram. Like how a book has multiple chapters this kind of holoprogram is just like that."

"I would be acting out a book?" Fabla confirmed with a raised eyebrow, sipping at her neon cocktail. "My owners who had exposed me to the holodeck usually only used them for private business meetings... Or making me available as a perk to their business associates."

"Owners?" But than it hit her what she is or was. "So.....are you.....ER never mind." Nanee said realizing this was the first time in a long time that she had held her tongue.

Fabla couldn't help laughing at the tongue tied doctor and the absurdity of someone not mentioning her past out of politeness. As she'd started to adjust to her new life, her old had started to feel like a nightmare she'd woken from, but at other times it felt like this was the dream and she'd be afraid she'd wake any moment. At the moment it leaned towards the former.

"I was a slave, until Nug, the Ferengi who sold Tierney the Figaro, bought me and my crew mates, then freed us," Fabla explained. "He then paid us to deliver the ship, and left it to Tierney to either keep us as crew or let us go on our way. One left us, the rest stayed." The more she spoke of it, the more real it felt; so she smiled and took another sip of her drink.

Nanee wasn't exactly a slave, but knew all too well the emotionless of her parents. And her truly being used to up their societal status. But she was never a slave. "Never heard of a Ferengi setting free, free labor."

"It is always a matter of balancing profits," Fabla insisted. "He must have felt he gained something more valuable than free labor by freeing us." Fabla shrugged. She would have to spend a little time thinking about the arrangement she'd reached with Nug, now that she was starting to get to know Tierney. Maybe privately warn her what the Ferengi expected from Fabla? Maybe not, she might be hurt by the idea of it.

Nanee continued to sip on her drink, finding this Orion fascinating. "So how are you finding the Enterprise so far?"

"Everyone has been so nice so far, and this ship is beautiful," Fabla answered, a smile lighting up her face. "The computer is very helpful too. It suggested I come here to meet people, and I met you."

Nanee took a second to think how that question was phrased. And then smirked, "well I'm glad the computer was helpful. I tend to get rather annoyed at it personally."

"I am sorry to hear it is difficult for you," Fabla said, taking the final drink out of her glass. "Perhaps some time, you can show me one of your holo-novels?"

"Of course." Nanee could never find anyone to do any of her holo-novels with her. This Orion was proving to be very intriguing.

Fabla stood, pushing her empty glass across the bar. "I am not used to alcohol... if I have another one of these, it will go to my head." She smiled at Nanee. "It was a pleasure meeting you. I will take you up on the offer of the holo-novel at a later time."

"You as well." Nanee said nodding to the pretty boy bartender for another Jack n' Coke. "And yes I look forwarded to doing something with a holo-novel with you....they're a blast!" Nanee said grinning.

Fabla grinned back at her new friend, then headed out of the lounge.
