Karim stood and stretched as he took a break from the many padds sitting on the desk. Since everything had happened with Mark, he'd been a bit ... behind in the administrative part of position. He didn't realize that being Acting CO had so much paperwork. He was about to grab a coffee and return to the mountain of padds when he heard "Bridge to Dhej. I'm sorry to interrupt sir, but there is a priority communication request from an Admiral Alexander Hark." Momentarily stunned, Dhej composed himself and replied "Put it through here Ensign." Quickly sitting at the desk, he thumbed the control and waited for the call to be connected.

The Starfleet Command logo flashed up on the screen in the ready room and was quickly replaced by the face of the greying Human Admiral, a stern look fixed across his face as he placed a padd down in front of him on the desk, "Commander Dhej I presume?" he asked with a slight nod.

Nodding, Karim replied "Yes sir. I'm Lieutenant Commander Dhej, Executive Officer of the USS Enterprise."

"As you should know, Starfleet Command has recalled Acting Captain Rhodes, I'm sorry to just drop the Enterprise on your lap like this, but for the time being, you are being named the Acting Commanding Officer of the Enterprise" Hark replied as he hit a button on the console and transmitted a packet of information, "Please place your palm on your desk console and confirm transfer of command."

Placing his hand on the console,he said "Computer, confirm command code transfer, authorization Dhej Gamma Green 501"

"Excellent," Xander replied as he closed off the padd and handed it to a waiting aide, "Now that we have that out of the way Commander, I'd like to hear your report on what has been happening with the Enterprise since the start of the civil war."

Thinking for a moment, he replied "I'm not sure where to start sir. As per orders we've been out here in deep space, exploring and learning more about the area. We did visit Bimi Station, a local merchant operation, and unfortunately during that time two of our officers were killed, and two others kidnapped by a then unknown element. Since then we've been working on repairs, and as I said exploring the area. Currently we are in orbit of a moon which we are examining to help supplement our supplies and learn about a possibly sentient aquatic species." Pausing, he said "Permission to speak freely sir?"

"Granted, Commander." Xander replied.

Taking a breath to steady himself he said "I guess I'm just confused sir. From my understanding, we were told to explore this previously uncharted area of space, keep our heads down and out of the way of the Federation extremists, and then suddenly we have a supply ship visit us out of the blue? We've been a bit out of touch lately, and I assume things have happened back home that we don't know about." Pausing, he added "Also, I have a few prisoners that originally attacked the ship when everything started sitting in the brig, Should I transfer them to the custody of the supply ship for transfer back home?"

"Things have begun taking steps towards normality," Hark replied with a slight smile, "We took advantage of an opportunity to retake Earth and the Federation, the extremists have been arrested and will be put before the council to answer for their crimes, for now we are just trying to reach out to the forces outstanding to bring them back into the fold," the Admiral continued, "All you need to know is that the Federation is once again a unified force, fractured slightly, but unified."

Nodding. not completely satisfied with the answer, but accepting it, Karim replied "So do you agree with my decision about the transfer of the prisoners? And what are our orders sir?"

"I do, have them transferred to the supply ship and forward the report of the incident to me." Hark replied with a quick nod, "As for your orders, continue to explore the area of space you are currently in, it'll do some good for our image to restore the true nature of Starfleet, to seek out new life and new civilisations, you know the drill, Commander."

Nodding, he said "Thank you for the clarification regarding our orders sir. I will see to the transfer as soon as we are finished sir."

"Now, you mentioned two of your people were taken by an unknown force," the Admiral asked as he pulled up some information on his screen, "Which of your crew were taken and do you have any leads?"

"Lieutenant Commander Scarlet Rogers and Lieutenant Thelin th'Zarath were taken sir. Captain Rhodes determined they may have been taken by elements related to an individual named Vokar. For the safety of the ship he decided not to pursue a rescue, as apparently the individual has a significant force behind him."

"Ah, yes..." Xander replied as he thumbed the console again, "Captain Rhodes' decision may have been a considerably wise one, Vokar is a dangerous individual and the force behind him is called the Vanguard, I will say however that they were instrumental in the final battles that faced us in retaking the core worlds."

Nodding, he replied "Was there anything else we needed to discuss sir?"

“Just one additional matter, with your promotion to Acting Commanding Officer, you're also being advanced in rank to Commander, with all the rights and responsibilities that come from the station.” the Admiral replied with a smile and a nod, “You'll find the patterns for the pips in the computers memory.”

Momentarily shocked, he took a moment to breathe and replied "Thank you sir. I will strive to live up to your confidence in me sir."

“I'm sure you will do just fine, Commander,” Hark replied, “We need all the good people we have at the moment, is there anything else I can help you with?”

Shaking his head, Karim replied "Not that I can think of sir. I will be in touch if there is anything further I need to discuss."

“Very well, I expect to see your full reports on my desk shortly and remember to keep in touch, Commander, the last thing we need is to lose track of you because you stop reporting in.” Hark replied quickly.

"Of course sir. I will ensure you are updated with all mission reports. Thanks again sir." Karim replied.

“Thank you, Hark out.” the Admiral stated before cutting off the connection, his face being replaced by the spinning Starfleet Command logo once more.

For a moment Karim just sat and stared at the console, then after taking a moment, moved to the replicator and began replicating his pips.
