Jon had just spent the afternoon checking out his Cliffs of Undalar program, looking for a good picnic spot and trying to decide if any of the climbing paths might be friendly to someone who's an inexperienced climber. Along the way, he found what looked to be a challenging climb, and couldn't resist. In the end, it was better than him, and if it hadn't been for the safeties, he might not have survived. As it was...

Jon Peters limped into sickbay, holding his right arm gently with his left. He looked around to see who was on duty.

With Nanee in the briefing Jackson somehow was the senior most physician all the while being a civilian. "No have beds 5 though 11 be for drop-ins I don't see us needing many triage beds." Jackson said just as he heard the door swish open. "Doctor." One of the physician mates called out.

"Oh wow.....what happened here?" Jackson asked pulling out his tricorder and did a get scan.

"I over estimated my abilities, and the rocks bucked me like a bull," Jon admitted, hanging his head. "Safeties mostly did their job, but I still got a bit of a tumble on the way down. Is it broke, Doc?" He nodded towards his right arm.

"Luckily it just looks like a hairline fracture but I do want to get a better look at it just to make sure." Jackson said nodding to a physician mate to lead him to bed 7. "Once I get the scan I can better determine the treatment."

"Sure thing, Doc," Jon answered with a grin, following the physician mate to the biobed. "I've got my first duty shift up in Engineering, after finally getting out of Waste Reclamation. This isn't going to keep me from making that, is it?"

"Maybe depends on what they have you doing and how bad the fracture is." Jackson said busily getting the correct scan ready. "But my guess is we'll need to you put you on light duty for a short while."

"I've heard the Dame is tough, I don't know if she's going to like that," Jon grumbled with a frown. "At least she let me transfer up. The last guy, what was it, Lieutenant th'Zarath? He never even considered my requests for transfer, as far as I could tell."

"Well if they have problem with your injury send them to me and I'll sort it out." Jackson said with a smile, "could you please lie down." Jackson said nodding to the physician mate to help him lay down.

"Thank you, Doc." Jon laid back like he was directed, polite smile at the man who helped him lie on the bed. "I just can't help but worry. I'd been meaning to get transferred up out of reclamation, and the chance finally comes. I just don't want to screw it up, you know? I just met someone, and I just don't want to disappoint him."

So yes this was avoidable but he was doing during his time off. "no can fault you for hurting yourself when it's your own time. I doubt the crew expects us to just sit in our quarters all the time when not on duty.

"I suppose, but I probably should have known that I was trying to free climb something too difficult for me. That said, the safeties probably should have done more to save me from my tumble." Jon shrugged slightly, trying to stay still otherwise, waiting for the scan to start.

It didn't take long for the scan to complete and it confirmed what Jackson thought but with one new thing. "So you've a hair line fracture of your forearm that's simple enough to fix it'll be sore but you also have a sprained wrist and shoulder."

Jon sighed. "Hopefully they won't need me hauling anything around. May I sit up, Doc?"

"Of course," Jackson said walking over to one of the cabinets he pulled out a sling and a bone spanner. "So first we'll run this over the hair line fracture which'll speed up the bone growth. You'll need to wear the sling for at least a week to allow the sprains to heal."

"A sling?" Jon closed his eyes and shook his head. "How much longer do you think it'll take to heal if I don't use the sling? As long as I don't do anything to aggravate it?"

"It's not about the time it'll take. It's the damage that might happen if you don't wear the sling." Jackson said leaning against the counter, "again I'm willing to explain all of this to your superior I just highly recommend wearing the sling to prevent any future damage."

"And there's nothing else you can do to heal the sprain?" Jon looked hopefully to Jackson as he asked this.

Jackson looked at the young man, "there is but I don't like it. It's risky....." Jackson said rubbing his forehead, "it could cause permanent nerve damage."

"I guess there's really no choice then," Jon admitted with a sigh. "Does it at least match my uniform?"

Jackson smirked, "I think I can do that for you and if need be we can give you another one when out of uniform."

"I think I can handle a week of color coordinating around a sling. I just have no choice on the uniform colors," Jon insisted with a smirk of his own.

Making some notes he would have the physician mate work with Peters on the coloring. "So I'll leave you in the very capable hands of petty officer to get the right colors." Jackson said as he finished up with the bone spanner.

"Thanks Doc," Jon said, resisting the urge to stretch his arm. A week in a sling was going to get frustrating, he could already tell.

"No problem," Jackson said with a nod finishing up adding some notes he than headed out of the room to allow the petty officer and ensign get to work on the color schemes for the slings.
