Mission: Where no man has gone before.

= Runabout Marlspike =

The runabout swung around from Starbase One, and made its way to McKinley Yards, as it approached gantry Six-B, Eric - who had been studying a PADD, looked up through the viewport as the pilot informed him of their impending arrival by saying "There she is."

This had been the first time that Eric had seen his new command up close and personal. He'd seen holo's of the Odyssey spaceframe as he'd studied the technical manuals for his new command, but seeing it in person, it was enough to humble anyone. What made it more spectacular was that it was his command, his ship, his baby. The contrasting white, grey and black hull design made it stand out from all the other grey vessels around. The long, sleek nacelles stretching out into the distance.

While Eric was admiring the ship, for which the pilot was deliberately taking him on a 'tour' of the external - he'd sent a message to the ship to inform whoever needed to know that the Captain of the Enterprise was inbound via the main shuttlebay.

Having received the message while he was tidying up some of the paperwork, Thelin found himself double checking his uniform was in order as he strode down the corridor towards the turbolift, the main shuttlebay his primary objective, the doors of the lift slid open as he approached and the Andorian called out his destination, the doors closing behind him and the lift speeding off.

In a matter of moments, Thelin was stepping through the shuttlebay doors as the runabout was coming in to land, it seemed so small in the cavernous shuttlebay.

The craft touched down gently, and deactivated its maneuvering thrusters. A few moments later, the side entry door opened, and Captain Eric Carpenter stepped out from the craft, a PADD in his hand. The significant moment was when his right foot stepped off from the step of the runabout onto the deck of the Enterprise.

Moving forward, the Andorian instantly noticed the rank pips on the collar of the officer who had stepped out, he bought himself to attention and as the foot hit the deck plating his voice rang out, "Captain on deck!"

This brought the assembled officers and crew, who had formed up for the command ceremony, to attention. A small dias had been erected on the deck, with a lectern on there. Eric approached the small stage, stepping up and standing behind the small wooden lectern.

"By order of the Starfleet Commander in Chief, as of Stardate 241402.20, Captain Eric Carpenter is hereby directed and required to assume command of the Odyssey class starship, USS Enterprise, registry NCC-1701-F. All officers and crew are sworn to obey your orders under the articles, regulations and traditions of the Starfleet Service." He said, and finished reading the PADD. He looked to the Andorian officer to his right, who now had his role to perform in this farce.

"In my role as Executive Officer, I hereby notify Captain Eric Carpenter that his crew stand ready to carry out his orders, Computer, transfer command codes to Captain Eric Carpenter." the Andorian called out as he turned and gave a nod to his new CO.

Eric nodded to his new XO, then turned to face the assembled throng of crew. "We have been given a ship that has a history, a reputation, a legacy. The last seven ship's to bear the name Enterprise have all forged our history, and we need to add to that with our chapter of the book. We will explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations. We will go where no one has gone before."

"We stand on the cusp of history, and I hope we can make it together." He said, as he nodded to Thelin. "Carry on, Commander."

"Crew Dismissed!" the Andorian called out to the assembled crew, once they had begun busying themselves elsewhere he turned back to face the CO and extended his hand, the antennae on his head tilting forwards slightly, "Welcome to the Enterprise Captain, Commander Thelin th'Zarath reporting."

Eric accepted the offered hand. "Thank you Commander. So you're the Thelin th'Zarath that Admiral Malone was raving about eh? I didn't realize my XO was so well placed in the universe."

"Neither did I sir," the Andorian replied with a slight smile as he shook the hand firmly and released it, "My last posting was to the backend of nowhere in the diplomatic corps, I felt that I'd been a little out of favour."

"Admiral Malone all but ordered me to make you my first officer." Carpenter said, as he gestured that they should walk out of the shuttle-bay. "Well, be that as it may, you'd better give me the rundown of the material condition of the ship, and what crew we're waiting on."

"The ship is solid, I have the majority of our senior staff working on pre-launch reports, we still seem to be lacking one or two, a Chief Tactical Officer and Chief Operations Officer being our major needs, however there are a few prime candidates we could use in an acting capacity until they do arrive." the Andorian replied with a slight nod as he fell into step towards the door, "The Corps of Engineers have this boat up to spec, but its down to our officers to make her purr, so to speak."

"She ready for her shakedown cruise?" Eric asked, as they entered a turbolift. "Bridge." He instructed the device.

"I'm sure our Chief Engineer would say she isn't, I do not think he trusts the Corps much, but I think we should be good for a few runs back and forth before we hit the slipstream drive." Thelin responded as he placed a hand on the railing and waited for the lift to finish.

"Well, they get it to shipyard specs, so it should fly. Whether it flies well... that'll be seen to be believed. But we need to run the ship to see where the faults are. Even our esteemed chief engineer needs to appreciate that." Eric said. "I'm eager to get out there."

"You and me both sir," the Andorian replied as the lift came to a halt and the doors slid open to reveal the spacious bridge, an Ensign who noticed their arrival hurriedly bought himself to attention, "Captain on deck!" rang out for the second time that day.

"As you were people." Eric said, as he strolled down the left side ramp to the middle of the bridge - trying not to be too in awe of his bridge... his bridge!

"I've been out of the world for a while, I'm looking forward to the chance to get back out there," Thelin replied in response to the previous comments, before they had been interrupted by the Ensign.

"Well, I'm going to go put my readyroom together. I'll leave you to corral our Chief Engineer into letting us leave." Eric smiled. "We depart at 0900 tomorrow, make sure he knows."

"Of course sir, we will be ready and waiting," the Andorian replied with a slight nod.

"Carry on, Commander." Eric nodded.
