= Bridge, USS Enterprise =

The time on the chrono above the viewscreen ticked along at a steady pace, obvious to the importance of the readouts that it was giving to the assembled officers and crew on the bridge. The display showed 0857, as H-Hour fast approached.

Captain Carpenter emerged from his readyroom, and everyone turned to look at him, with Commander th'Zarath vacating the center chair as Eric emerged. He crossed the short distance across the bridge to the command circle, and sat in his chair, as th'Zarath sat in his on the CO's right hand side.

0858.

"Prepare for departure, Commander." Eric said, which was his line in a well rehearsed and practiced routine that had been done on thousands of ships over hundreds of years. The CO expressed his wishes, the XO would execute the orders.

"All stations report ready for disembarkation." th'Zarath instructed firmly, as each station rattled off its pre-departure reports.

"Gantry's and Gateways clear." Lt Sato-Pryce reported from ops. "Umbilical's are clear. We are on independent power."

"Airlocks locked and secure, all decks report ready for departure." Lt Lucas reported from the security station on the aft bridge.

"All systems are green, engines on standby." Ensign Kieran reported from the CONN.

"Ship ready for departure, Captain." th'Zarath reported to the CO, just as 0900 ticked over.

"Take us out, Mister Kieran." Eric instructed.

"Aye Captain." Kieran acknowledged. "Docking clamps released. Thrusters on full."

Slowly but surely the Odyssey class ship slipped out of the cradle that had been its home for the last few weeks, and proceeded into space under its own power. The running lights winked on, illuminating the sides and the name, giving an impressive show to anyone at McKinley yards.

The two massive nacelles slowly began to glow blue as the drive plasma was ignited and brought to life. Everything was proceeding as if on a perfect script.

"Clear of gantry." Kieran reported.

"Thank you, Mister Kieran." Eric said. "Set course eight eight four mark five. Full impulse until we are clear of Earth orbit, then we'll test our warp and quantum slipstream drive."

"Aye Captain, setting course eight eight four mark five. Full impulse." Kieran acknowledged.

"Bridge to Engine-room, prepare for warp speed." th'Zarath said over the comm.

"Engine-room to Bridge, full warp speed available on your order. Slipstream is also online, but I've no idea if the d-"

"Thank you Commander Rhodes." th'Zarath cut him off, and closed the channel, then looked to his CO, who was looking at him with a quizzical look.

"Warp power available Captain." th'Zarath reported. "As is slipstream drive, but our chief engineer has concerns about the drive." It was obvious that th'Zarath would be talking to their Chief Engineer in the future about how he spoke to the bridge during operations. This wasn't something that Eric needed to get himself involved in, as ships discipline was the XO's job, not his. He only got involved it it escalated to his level.

"Thank you, Number One." Eric nodded. "Warp Six."

"Warp Six ready at your command." Kieran reported.

"Take us to sea, Mister Kieran." Eric smiled, nestling back into his chair. "Have at it."
