As the doors opened to admit the next participant, the Guardian nodded and said "Hello Adrianna Hunter. Please, take a seat, we will begin as soon as you are comfortable.

She was still a little nervous and sceptical, but with being in security for so long and in Starfleet itself, not much surprised her now. Taking a seat Adrianna smiled, "Ready."

The Guardian nodded, and approaching her said "This device will allow you to telepathically connect with the memories of Samir, one of Dhej's previous hosts. You will be present for the experience, but in the background, as an observer. You will be able to end the meeting at any time, but the memories and personality of Samir will be in control of the interactions with Karim."

"Ok," she confirmed and looked to Dhej a moment, "You ready?"

Karim, sitting in a nearby corner after the last meeting nodded and said "As ready as I'll ever be."

She smiled in a caring way to him, her motherly nature felt for the man.

Returning the smile, he prepared himself for the meeting. It would be the first where he saw the actual joining.

Closing her eyes, Adrianna tried to relax as suddenly she was there.

Karim felt himself tense, unsure of what to expect.

Samir looked at the mirror infront of him and placed his hand on the reflection. The man smiled curiously at himself before his personality took a turn. Looking around his surroundings more, at his studio, the white walls, plenty of natural light and pine wood floors. Art works, most unfinished lay around the walls, propped up. On the easel closest to the pair the was a painting of a man, mostly finished. He grabbed the painting and through it across the room almost hitting Karim.

His anger stopped and it became more confusion, "You, who are you. My mind feels as though you are familiar. The glimpse of a future yet untold or perhaps a past once tragic more so than the present in which I stand now."

Karim hadn't been expecting such a sudden reaction after the joining. The art works in the room were there for decoration, maybe Samir didn't like that they weren't his? Clearing his throat, he held up his hands in a peaceful gesture "I'm Karim. You are Samir correct? A respected artist on the Homeworld?"

"What is it to you?" he asked, "Are you here to buy one of my artworks?" the man gestured around the room, "One of my unfinished, uninspired, unrelatable pieces that I am criticised for? Or are you a critic, here to mock my downfall?"

Lowering his hands, he replied "I am here to talk to you Samir, to find out more about you. I remember you as being more calm and relaxed, maybe my memories aren't as clear as they should be." He was nervous about telling Samir the truth, not sure how he would react.

The man sighed and ran a frustrated hand through his hair, "We know eachother? Tell me how, then I know what side of my life you wish to learn more about."

Sighing, Karim decided to take the risk and said "I am Karim, Dhej's current host. I am completing the zhian'tara to help me deal with some issues I am experiencing."

"As one life leaves, so it must be berthed into a life anew, to live it's path to the hope that with each life come new memories and hope of seeing peace," Samir said to himself, accepting what Karim had said with ease, "What is it you need me to tell you? A guide? A spirit guide perhaps? I can barely help myself."

Karim was frustrated, mainly that he hadn't remembered Samir was so angry all the time. Standing, he said "I am here because I am dealing with some big and sudden changes in my life. I thought that by exploring the memories of the past hosts I could gain some insight into who I am now, as a joined being. Maybe learn more from their experiences to help me deal with my own challenges. I guess I've wasted my time." He started moving towards the door and added "I'll leave you to your anger, I'm sorry to have thought you'd help."

"You said that you didn't remember me this way," Samir interrupted, "How do you remember me?"

Turning, he said "I remember you as a dreamer, a calm spirit, someone who could 'stop and smell the roses' so to speak. Not this angry bitter man that I see now."

"You remember my yesterday," he replied, "I suppose it is in lifes nature to only remember the inspired days. Pain is always forgotten when happiness outweighs, just like when a human woman has a baby. She forgets the pain, and only sees love."

Not knowing what to say, Karim decided to be blunt. He said "So what happened? Why did you suddenly become angry and bitter all the time?"

"I lost my inspiration," Samir replied wistfully turning to the painting he had just thrown across the floor, "Days were beautiful. Birds sang so passionately, with the roses smelling so sweet, and then the winged beasts began singing in minor keys, piercing my ears, and my nose was offended with the stench of rotting flesh from when the roses began to lose their sweetness. It's cause? My, Your, Our best friend." He pointed to the painting, "That man there rescued us and kept our heads above water. He was infact our brother, but friendship holds a more special place than family sometimes. We lost our identity when something that has been part of our lives for so long, is taken away by the grips of the dark side of life." He sighed, "I am sure that as the pain dulls, I will find my calling again, and no longer with my paint brushes tell lies to the canvasses."

Karim was shocked, how could he not remember what happened to Samir? Quietly he said "I'm sorry, I guess part of me blocked out that painful part of your life. Maybe over the lifetimes some of the more painful memories were pushed aside to focus on other positive ones. I'm sorry to bring up this pain for you."

"Life is a delicate but beautiful thing Karim," Samir walked up to the man and put his hands on the man's shoulders, "Whatever you are struggling with, I know you will find an answer and be able to cherish the time you have with this current host."

Touched at Samir's sudden compassion, Karim let himself relax, and replied "Can I ask you something? I remember, or at least I think I do, that you had a lover who wasn't Trill. How did you deal with the multiple sets of memories when you are in love with someone who hasn't had the same experience? Did he accept the fact that there was more to you then just the man before him?"

"Love," Samir smiled and turned away almost like a dance. He walked over to the wall that was nearly all window that overlooked the city below them, "Love is what keeps you on your toes. He was not trill, but he accepted that I was much more. He still does. If anything, it is harder for us than them. Man can accept that there is more to us, but we cannot accept that we have loved and lost time and time again. Love is more special when someone accepts you for you and you do not accept anything less. The moment you accept less, is the moment you know it is not love, but just a moment."

Nodding, Karim replied quietly "Thank you Samir. That helps a lot actually. I am trying to deal with a relationship of my own, and I'm very scared that he won't accept me with all my .... complications."

"If he doesn't you know you can escape and find someone who can," Samir looked back to Dhej, "Love deserves two hearts, not just one."

Smiling, he replied "I will keep that in mind. I will also strive not to forget the painful memories, but work through them and try to learn from them."

"No," Samir clicked out of his love dovey fantasy, "Do not purposely remember. The happy times are much more important sometimes. Only remember the ones you have to in the life you are in. If you dwell in the past, so you cannot live."

"I will try to do that Samir. Thank you." he replied.

"Remember, you are more than just a being that changes hosts every so often. You are still a life. You are many people, but one person," Samir smiled.

Smiling, he said "I will Samir. You've given me a lot to think about."

The artist just bowed his head, "Do not think too much. Allow your passions in your new life to dictate you, not just your head."

Nodding, Karim replied "I know I tend to think instead of feel. But I'll take your advice."

The past self smiled.

Karim returned the smile, and waited for him to fade, and for Adrian to return.

The scene soon faded and Adrian blinked awake in a little shock as if waking from a nightmare.

Stepping close to her, Karim laid a hand on her arm and said "Adrian, are you ok?"

"I need to make a call if that's ok," she replied quickly.

Nodding, he said "Sure, go ahead."

The woman stood up a little numb, "Thank you, sir."

Sighing, he stepped away from her, giving her some privacy. He was worried that the experience had somehow hurt their friendship.

Hunter left a message for a man by the name of Benjamin Hunter asking to get back in contact as soon as possible, but reassured it wasn't an emergancy and that Matthias was fine. After which, she looked to Karim, "Thank you for that memory."

Nodding slightly, he said "Are we ok? I was worried about your reaction when Samir ... left you. I thought you were upset with me about the experience."

"No not at all," she replied, "this has helped me too."

Smiling, he said "That is good to hear. Perhaps after this ritual is all done we can check out one of those holoprograms with Mathias?"

"I would be offended if you didn't," she chuckled.

Smiling, he replied "I'll be in touch. Let me know if you need to talk about the experience."

"It's opened my eyes," she smiled.

"That's great." he replied, and stood to leave the room, to wait for the next host.
