As the doors opened to admit the next participant, the Guardian nodded and said, "hello Nanee Quoicho. Please, take a seat, we will begin as soon as you are comfortable."
Nanee took a seat and looked around she was still incredibly nervous and the first time it showed, "Alright." Nanee said quietly.
The Guardian approached her after she was seated and said "I will begin the ritual now. Once you are living the memories I will bring Karim in to meet you. Do you have any questions before we begin?"
Nanee just shook her head as she closed her eyes and took several deep breaths.
Nodding, the Guardian picked up a small device and said "This device will open you to the telepathic connection of a previous host, in your case, Jenka. You will still be aware of the experience, but in more of an observer role. You will be able to choose when you want to end the experience. Keep in mind however, the memories of Jenka will be dominant, and will control the meeting."
Nodding again Nanee opened her eyes, "I understand."
Moments later the door opened, and Karim walked in. Slightly nervous, mainly because he wasn't sure how he'd respond to Jenka he said "Hello, I'm Karim, how are you today Jenka?"
It was like Nanee was a ghost she was there but not there. Jenka one of Dhej's past hosts looked at Karim, "Karim, do we have an appointment? My secretary is almost as useless as the council." Jenka said shaking her head as she stood up, "if we do have an appointment it needs to be quick I've got a lot of work to do."
Smiling slightly, Karim said, "yes, I do have an appointment, your secretary scheduled it a while ago. I understand you are busy, but I thought we could talk for a few moments. Would that be ok?"
"Is it about that ridiculous tariff if it is I'm sorry there's nothing I can do about that. The council is dead set on undermining local business and making sure the rich stay rich and get richer." Jenka said sighing and shaking her head as she looked around as she tried to remember where she put something.
Shaking his head, he said. "It's not about a tariff Jenka. I want to get to know you better." Pausing, he thought for a moment and added. "I am Dhej's current host, and I am experiencing some very quick and substantial changes in my life. I was hoping you that getting to know you would help me cope."
This made Jenka stop in her tracks and glare at Karim, "That's not funny not even in the littlest bit." She said as she continued to search. {Crap!} Nanee said as she tried and focus to keep Jenka focused. "Even if that was possible how am I here seeing as I have Dhej symbiont in me."
Remembering that Jenka was always argumentative, and skeptical, Karim decided to be honest. Clearing his throat he said. "I am completing the ritual of zhian'tara, and a friend of mine is hosting your memories. I understand you probably don't want to believe me, but its the truth."
"Zhian'tara?! Good on.....I mean very specific." Jenka said putting her hands on her hips, "okay so let's say I do believe you why me out of all the previous hosts?"
Sighing, he replied. "I am meeting with all the previous hosts in turn. I was looking forward to meeting you because I remember you always being a stickler for details. I was hoping you would have some insight with how to deal with a sudden joining, and some rather quick life changes." Pausing, he turned to leave and said. "But if you aren't interested, I will leave you to your work."
"Wait......." She called out walking back over to the chair and sitting down and looking at Karim seeing that his eyes were telling the truth, "truthfully you just breathe. Let it happen and remember you can't control everything. It took me months to learn that after I got elected to the council if things get chaotic take a second close your eyes and just breathe."
Turning, he nodded and said "Thank you for that advice. I admit I tend to forget to do that. Life in Starfleet can keep you constantly on your toes, and sometimes you can get lost in the details."
Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. "Starfleet nothing but holier than thou manipulators." Jenka said in disgust, "why in the hell did the Symbiosis Commission choose a officer for the new host."
Smiling slightly, he said. "I wasn't chosen Jenka. The previous host was dying, and I was the only unjoined Trill aboard. I made the decision to join with Dhej to avoid it dying with the host."
Jenka couldn't stay upset with anyone who would do that to keep the symbiont alive. "So you're the first Dhej host to serve in the military. No wonder you're struggling."
Shaking his head, he said. "The second actually. The person who hosted Dhej before me was also in Starfleet. We served together."
Shaking her head, "That's a damn shame."
Curious, he said. "Why is it a shame? Do you disagree with people leaving the homeworld to pursue other interests?"
"No I don't mind people leaving the homeworld.....I mind them joining a over reaching bureaucracy who thinks they know best for everyone and their members blindly following orders." Jenka said again in disgust.
Smirking slightly, Karim replied. "Then how would that explain your job Jenka? You serve on the Ruling Council. Don't they do the exact same thing?"
"Only for Trill not for the whole damn frilling universe." Jenka said shaking her head.
Karim nodded and said. "I guess we will agree to disagree Jenka. I serve in Starfleet because I want to explore, and help those in need. I have no interest in forcing others to follow any rules."
"As a Starfleet captain of a vessel don't you make your crew follow your orders. And don't you follow Starfleet command's orders?" Jenka asked looking at Karim, "you may not be forcing them but you're still blindly following rules yourself without even realizing it. Like I do with the council."
Rolling his eyes, Karim replied. "As much as I enjoy debating with you, and I know you enjoy getting the last word, I'm not sure what else to say to you. The only advice you've given me is to breathe, which I'm working on, but I still don't know how to deal with the sudden changes. I guess I'll have to hope they get easier."
"My advice is the same breathe and trust your judgement that's all you can do." Jenka said again but this time sounding more annoyed than anything else.
Suddenly realizing what she was trying to say, he replied. "Do you mean there is no point in worrying about everything I'm dealing with, but just take one day at a time, and do the best I can do?"
Jenka just nodded as she started to fade away and Nanee started to re-appear in front of Karim.
Smiling as the "essence" of Jenka left, he looked at Nanee and said. "You ok there Nanee? I know you were nervous about the ritual, but it helped, a lot."
"Yes....I'm fine." She said weakly even with everything going fine it took a lot out of her, "can I have some water?"
Nodding, he went to a small table beside him and poured her a glass of water. Handing it to her, he said. "Thank you for being here. I think meeting Jenka was ... interesting and in her own way, she gave me some smart advice."
"Your welcome," Nanee said taking the glass of water and taking a sip of it, "Jenka very much felt like me not shy about speaking her mind."
Smiling, he said "Well get some rest, I do understand that you may be a bit worn out after the experience." After she left, he took a moment to compose himself, then left the room.
