Mission: Ascension
Location: Utopia Planitia
Timeline: Current

Large duffle bag slung easily over one shoulder, the Orion stood almost preternaturally still, roseate gaze locked on the metallic leviathan that hovered just beyond the confines of the docking ring. The black shroud of space that served as a backdrop to the alarming vision made it all the more...conspicuous, gleaming with the same argent quality as the remote, pinprick stars. Kishar was not one to often be awed, and yet, in this moment she could feel little else. It was... not what she had expected, to thoroughly understate the matter at hand. Catching a flash of her verdantly hued reflection in the glass, dark lips twisted into a fleetingly amused smirk. Turning away from the spectacle and hitching her bag further up with a shrug, Kishar continued her trek towards her new adventure. There was nothing for it, after all.

Never before had she felt so vastly unprepared for what now lay ahead. Aside from a few pieces of furniture that had been sent beforehand, all of the Orion's worldly possessions had fit comfortably within the single piece of luggage she now carried. A minimalist approach had always seemed the most practical. The life of a Starfleet officer was somewhat mercurial at best, as she had experienced enough in her decade or so of service thus far. There was a suspicion that her meager belongings were going to seem all the more sparse very, very soon. With a vessel that big? She could only hazard a guess that the appointments would be equally palatial, in comparison to the distinctly martial quarters she had ever inhabited up until this point. Maybe there would be time to buy a plant, or something? That was one of the most common decor pieces, right?

The promotion to head of her chosen department had not come as any real surprise. Nor had the accompanying boost in rank. In fact, she was mildly surprised it had taken quite so long, though it was mitigated by the knowledge of what a vast mess everything had been such a short span ago. The ship, however, had been enough to warrant a second, and even a third read-over of the orders; scanning for any chance of mistake. Slightly loathe to admit, she had allowed herself a measure fondness for her previous locale, and the varied crew within it. Nevertheless, one did not simply turn down an offer to be a part of the Enterprise.

What exactly her new assignment bespoke, remained uncertain at the current moment. Whether it was truly telling of the desperation of the organization after the last few years of turmoil, or merely the more mundane probability of a qualified personage being given an opportunity to shine. Skepticism made Kishar suspect the former. Still, it was decidedly unwise to purposefully look a gift horse in the mouth; and she was determined to keep this particular present sealed as long as possible. Be that as it may, patience was never exactly a virtue she had been accused of possessing.

An Orion on the Enterprise. Whom ever would have thought?

Perhaps less staggering than it had been, once upon a time. Once, when she had been naive and young and borderline foolishly determined. When she had filled out the application to join Starfleet, only to be utterly surprised when admission had been granted. A time in which she had still had so much to learn, and perhaps more notably, to prove. Discrimination was not entirely dead, despite the smiling faces and accepting words that had been received more often than not. Though it had never terribly bothered her, it was much the same for any recruit of questionable heritage. For all that, she had striven to denounce her origin through her actions, for every accomplishment that had been achieved despite, or perhaps because of in some cases, the subtle assumptions of others.

It mattered not, in the current moment. There was no denying the small well of pride that secretly filled her chest. A knowledge that somewhere in the murky depths of her past, well buried beneath all the effort at hiding, willful forgetting, denouncing... long-lost skeletons would writhe to see where she now stood.

Reaching the final barrier to her destination, Kishar drew herself up, head held high as the door slid smoothly open to grant admittance. As both heels came to rest on the deck of the ship, the woman allowed a brief smile to grace her normally solemn features. A new home, a new adventure, began this very second. Wasting no more time, she quickly set off towards the nearest lift. This ship was massive, and there was an incredibly finite amount of allotment to be had to familiarize herself with it before they were to be underway.
