Mission: Where no man has gone before.

=/\= Jupiter Station, Sol Sector =/\=

Lieutenant Commander Mark Rhodes had been on duty when his Commanding Officer called him to his office. Mark had been assigned to Jupiter Station for 3 years now after having come off of the USS Genesee as their Assistant Chief Engineer.

For the past 3 years Mark had been working with the Corp of Engineer's Colonization Department and was responsible for designing and testing new ships that were being used for Colonization. These ships would go to a planet and land then be disassembled as habitat modules for the Colony during its first round of colonization. It was an older ideology from Starfleet Engineering but it was a trusted method of early colonization. Mark liked the assignment because it gave him a chance to always test himself with versatility and thinking outside of the box when it came to problems that needed to be solved and tailored to each colony.

Mark stepped off the turbolift and crossed the stations Main Operations Center and hit the chime to the posts CO's office. Hearing a 'come' from inside Mark stepped inside and stood at rigidly, "You asked to speak with me sir?"

"Have a seat Mark," said the CO gesturing to a chair in front of his desk. "Well I just got the word, you are being reassigned."

Mark was confused and broadsided by the news. "What do you mean 'reassigned'? I never put in for a transfer."

"Welcome to Starfleet," said the CO with a chuckle. "When have you ever known Starfleet to ask an Engineer what they want to do?"

"Surprising to say the least," said Mark. "Where are they sending me? Tell me it's a new ship, I couldn't imagine having to keep an old ship together with hope and a prayer. I thought I got rid of that when I left the Genesee."

"Oh it's a new ship," the CO said with a wide smile. "Here's some information," he said passing Mark a PaDD across the desk. "You are on the first shuttle back to McKinley Station-"

"McKinley Station?" questioned Mark starting to put things together in his head. "I'll be working on the Engineering crew for the Enterprise?"

"Not just working on the Engineering crew, running it. They want you for Chief Engineering Officer, assuming of course you want the post."

"'Assuming I want the post'," repeated Rhodes back with a chuckle. "Of course I want the post!"

"Well you better get moving, last shuttle of the day departs for McKinley in half an hour," said the CO. Mark stood up and turned to leave the office. "Oh, and Rhodes? It was a pleasure working with you" he said putting his hand out for a hand shake.

Mark shook the outstretched hand a, "You as well sir."

"I do have something for you," the CO opened his top drawer of his desk and took a rock about the size of a grapefruit and handed it to Mark.

Looking rather confused Mark questioned as he examined the rock, "Sir?"

"It's always been said that Starfleet Corp of Engineers can turn rocks into replicators. I figured it only fitting now that you have a ship of your own, you may need this rock, I mean replicator," said the CO with smirk on his face.

"Thank you sir," said Mark with a grin. "Well I must be off. I have to pack and get my replacement up to speed." The CO nodded and Mark dashed out of the office.

The CO was left in his office, alone in silence. As he sat back down he broke the silence speaking to himself: "Go get 'em kid," he smiled as he went back to his reports.
