It had taken Lieutenant Dorey Dame a good long while since Lt Cmdr Rhodes became acting Captain for the Dame to accept the post, but she decided it was best for the crew. She had been working with Rhodes before he became CO and she was confident she could do the job. She had been working as acting Chief, but Mark decided to make it official and the department was now hers. She had few orders of business to take care of now that she was officially running the show. She tapped her Comm on her chest "Cadet Jones, could you join me in the Chief Engi- I mean, my office please?"

Cadet Gordon Jones had been busy all day. He'd been working in Main engineering, shadowing different people for short periods of time, as part of his on the job training. Soon it would be time to meet the Chief Engineer, Lieutenant Dorey Dame. Gordon was nervous, he hadn't been on a starship before, and this was the first time he'd be on one, as an Engineer Officer. Gordon was debating heading towards the mess hall for a quick snack before meeting with the Chief, when his combadge chirped. "Cadet Jones, could you join me in the Chief Engi- I mean, my office please?" That must be the Chief, he thought to himself. He tapped the Combadge on his chest to reply. "On my way Lieutenant!" He quickly headed off to the turbolift to head to Deck 17. When the turbolift arrived, he headed down the corridor, and activated the door chime to let the Chief know that he was here.

"Come in," called the Dame from inside. "Ah yes Cadet Jones," she said looking to the visitor at the door. "Have a seat please."

Gordon was even more nervous now that he'd met the Chief of the Engineering department. "Thank you ma'am." replied Gordon as he sat down in one of the chairs in front of the desk. He felt like he was back in school, about to be told off for something he hadn't done.

"First of all let me formally introduce myself." Well that was a good start, no telling off yet. "I am Lieutenant Dorey Dame, but the boys around here just seem to call me The Dame." The Dame, Gordon thought to himself. What a strange name to call the chief of engineering. The Chief continued. "I came on board at the request of Captain Rhodes, before he was Captain, and worked as his Assistant Chief. When things got mixed up, I ran the department until Mark could decide that it was good idea to keep me doing what I was doing and give me the promotion to Chief."

That's a good start . Gordon thought to himself; at least she was sort of new to the crew of this ship; not as much as he was, but still sort of new. But the Chief hadn't finished.

"I know you have been shadows of various officers around Main Engineering since you have come aboard this ship. Now that everything has settled down I am confident that your time with me can take place now. This will be the last assignment before your final exam and commission as an officer. But, that isn't to say your time with me will conclude when you have received your commission," She ended that sentence with a wicked smile, Gordon was now more worried than he was than when he'd first came into the office, something he'd thought wasn't possible. Oh well he thought, at least it was nearly over. Or at least that's what he hoped.

"So how have you been settling into things so far?"

This question took Gordon by suprise. "I'm settling in quite well so far, thank you ma'am, all the crew, especially the engineers around the ship, have been very helpful, and I have learnt a great deal about both this ship, and engineering itself." Gordon was hoping that he'd soon be able to start his engineering career as a full fledged member of the team.

"Well we are glad to have you aboard," said Dorey. "Usually we only get officers who have started their career as an Ensign. We decided this time to take on a few cadets across the ship. I think it helps to give young officers a better hands on training than the traditional end course," she admitted. "And the engineering staff is the best department on the boat, obviously, its my department, of course we are the best," she said with a light giggle.

"Well, i'm glad that you did consider taking on some cadets, I personally learn better by doing things practically than theoretically, so hopefully we can get to work soon ma'am?" Queried Gordon, hoping to get to work soon.

"Yes. Your first duty shift with me is at 0800 tomorrow," said the Dame. She handed Gordon a PaDD of information. "Your adjusted duty schedule is here. If you have no questions, you are dismissed Cadet. See you tomorrow bright and early."

"Thank you ma'am, I will see you bright and early, thank you for your time!" Gordon saluted as he was dismissed and turned to leave the office, he would need as much sleep as possible for tomorrow to be able to keep up with his tasks in the morning.
