PL - CSec - Lt Lucas - "Getting her orders"

Mission: Where no man has gone before.

=*= Police Station, Coos Bay, Oregon =*=

“I said stay down” Aly snapped at the man who she currently had pinned on the ground and was trying to put the cuffs on. Once that was done, she lifted off him with a nod to her brother. She’d done her part of the job and now would be the backup for Alex, her hand resting to her side where her weapon was. Her brother reached down and grabbed the man to lift him to his feet. Now that he was cuffed he was definitely more subdued. Alyssa stepped to the other side of the criminal. They weren’t far from the station when the guy had done the break in, coming on duty; both officers had simply taken off on foot to chase the man down. Now the walk back was proving to be a bit longer.

“I’m telling you sis, you should stay. The force could use you.” Alex said with a slightly worried look over to Alyssa. He knew that his questions were useless, that once she’d made up her mind it was set. But the idea of her being out there all alone worried him, especially after what had happened to their father.
Aly sighed as she heard her brother. They had been through this talk repeatedly and it never changed. Neither he nor her mother had been pleased when she signed up for Starfleet Academy. Her father on the other hand had been ecstatic. That was why his death had hit her so hard. And that was the reason she was currently back on earth. “You know father wouldn’t have wanted me to give up on my dreams.”

Alex just shook his head; he knew well enough that his sister was right. Their father wouldn’t have wanted that for either of them. That didn’t mean of course that he wasn’t going to try and talk his sister out of going, after all… that’s what big brothers did.

Reaching the Station they lead the prisoner to the holding area before Aly started off over to her desk to start working on the paper work. Though she wasn’t a full time cop, this was a temporary job and it came with all the perks of paper work. A lift of her gaze to the man that wandered over to her desk and she straightened up. “Chief.” Aly said with a bit of interest, after all, usually they brought the reports to him not the other way around.

Aly’s breath caught slightly as the Chief placed a PaDD before her. “Your Starfleet orders were delivered here, they had been looking for you.” Came the gruff words of his finally. They all had known this time would come; it was why Lusac had informed Fleet that if she couldn’t be reached he was approved to accept the information and would see she received it. The Chief had been a friend of her fathers and had taken both her and Alex under his wing after the accident. “I won’t ask if you’ll change your mind. I know the answer already. Just… stay safe.” He said before turning and heading back to his office, pausing only a moment. “And get out of here as soon as you turn in that report. Both of you.” He said with a glance to Alex. He knew the siblings would need time with their mother to break the news.

It hadn’t taken long for them to finish things up at the Station, nor had it taken long to get home. As Alex headed into the house Alyssa stopped and listened to the psithurism, she knew when she left Earth it would be only in a holodeck that she would hear the wind again. Yes, she’d miss it, but in life one had to give up things in order to enjoy different ones. With a smile on her face, she headed on into the house, there was a lot of work to do before she left and now was the time to get started.

The smell of fried chicken filled the air and her smile brightened. It seemed almost fitting for her last meal on earth to be her favorite one. Fried chicken, mashed potato and corn, dessert had been. Well, she’d never gotten the chance to find out. Alyssa had opted to wait till after the main course to tell her mother that she would be taking off again. The news had gone over like a lead balloon as she heard all about how she was abandoning her family in their time of need. How she needed to forget those silly thoughts about living in space. She needed to settle down, find her a man and give her some grandbabies.

Everything that was said only seemed to tear her heart a little more. She hated disappointing her mother. Steeling herself as the rant continued before Alyssa had finally had enough and stood up from that table. Telling them both what she thought before storming off as Alex worked to soothe their mother down. Reaching her room, the duffle bag out of her closet and started packing what she would need.

=*= 0800 hours =*=

The ride to the Starfleet base had been uneventful, the mood soured by her mother’s disappointment when she’d left. So afraid she’d been when Aly had finally put her foot down and told them both she was going and that was final. The confrontation had only reminded her of who she was missing. She’d been a daddy’s girl and was finding that she was taking this harder than she’d thought she would.

Arriving, she looked around and smiled before turning to her brother. “Take care of mother for me, and keep in touch. And yes.. I will stay safe I promise.” Then again, she knew logically she shouldn’t make that promise; it was one of those that no one would ever have any control over. But one that people made in order to appease the people they love.

Alex just sighed and pulled her in for a big hug. “I’ll do what I can, and yes, I’ll stay safe too.” With that, he stepped back and handed her the duffle she’d packed the night before.

Slipping the strap of the duffle to her shoulder and taking the PaDD, she gave another quick hug to her brother before heading off to check in. It would be a long trip and she’d gotten little sleep.
