Mission: Reconstruction and Refocus
=*=CO's Office, Deck 1=*=
Captain Rozen Coo stood looking out the window off his office, bathed in the artificial light of the Starfleet Dry Dock that was erected like an exoskeleton around the USS Enterprise, NCC-1701-F. After many months out in the black of space the ship finally came back to Earth for refits, restorations, repairs and crew replacements.
No real harm had befallen the Enterprise in the 18 months since it had seen a Dry Dock, but as was protocol, the ship was brought in for scheduled maintenance. Typically most all of the crew continued their post, business as usual. However, this refit included reassigning some of the crew members to new posts off of the Enterprise, which is how Rozen Coo found himself with a PaDD in hand looking out the window over the Workbees buzzing around the hull of the ship.
Rozen had been in various positions around Starfleet over his career, Chief Science Officer of Zetari Starbase, 204-B, and even promoted up to Director of Starfleet Science, to name a few. About 6 months ago Rozen had decided he was ready to feel the hum of a warp core under his feet once again. Being the Director of Starfleet Science had is perks, one of which having the opportunity to take command of the most cutting edge exploration and science vessel in the fleet, when the chance presented itself.
He continued to watch the crafts drift back and forth, bringing various plates, components and replacement part canisters to and from the ship. He stood waiting as he was expecting a new arrival sooner, rather than later. Breaking his focus from the Workbees, he turned away from the window and back to his desk. As he took his seat he heard the chime of the door and called out, "Come."
Coop straightened his jacket and walked in. "Commander Cooper Williams reporting Captain."
As the doors opened the Commander entered and stood before the CO's desk. Coo stood up and extended a hand for a handshake across his desk. "Welcome aboard Commander Williams," he said shaking hands.
"Have a seat," he said gesturing to a chair before his desk, taking his seat. "How was the journey? Not too taxing I hope?"
Coop took the hand extended to him "Not at all, Sir. Still can't believe I'm on the Enterprise and still taking in the fact that I'm her executive officer...was sure I was in anyone's good graces anymore..."
"You know its funny you should mention that..." Rozen started than trailed off. "So I just wanted to review and touch base with you before get too much farther to get underway." Rozen shifted a PaDD in front of him.
"We should have the 'Green Light' from the Corp of Engineers and get underway in about 4 days. We still have a handful of crew en-route to join us before we depart, and may have a few more joining us on the way. Starfleet has deployed us to the Gamma Quadrant for scientific study, see what hasn't been seen yet."
"Well considering that the gamma quadrant hasn't had a proper study since Voyager...it makes sense that they would send a ship...but the Enterprise? It's the flagship of the fleet...I'm usually not one to question...but why us?"
"To be honest, it is seen as an opportunity. Take new and up and coming members of the fleet to the farthest reaches, train them up, bring them home and send them to other posts throughout the fleet," relied Rozen. He had been briefed before coming aboard by Fleet. "We are setting an example for the fleet in terms of training and preparedness."
Coop nodded "Makes sense. Pride of Starfleet needs to reflect the standard. What are we waiting for as far as staffing goes?"
"Most all major Chief positions are still needing to report in: Ops, Tactical/Security, Engineering, Science and Medical. The joys of bring the ship back to refit," started Rozen with the slightest note of sarcasm, "is Fleet decided to refit most of the crew as well."
"So a full restaff in 4 days...not out of the realm of possibility"
"Correct," said Rozen hopeful they would rise to the challenge. "Some may have to be collected en-route, but that's manageable. What department do you hail from Commander?" Rozen hadn't had much time to get to know his Executive Officer via PaDD, so he figured now was a good time to get to know him.
Coop smiled, "You could call me a jack of all trades Sir...Engineering, Security, Tactical, Operations...not much I haven't done."
"Good. Will give you the opportunity to assist, if we need an extra hand," said Rozen. "I hail from Science myself. Here's to hoping our staff comes in before we get to far into the black of space."
Coop grinned "Sir, I live by the unexpected...don't be surprised if our staff does too..."
"Fantastic," replied Rozen with a wide smile. "Well, unless there is anything else, dismissed Commander. Make yourself familiar with the ship and its systems, we will call this ship 'home'."
Coop nodded "I'll start in engineering. Nothing else matters if we can't get anywhere."
"Thank you Commander," said Rozen looking to Cooper. "Welcome aboard."
