Mission: Where no man has gone before.
Location: Holodeck 1

Valok allowed himself a small smile as he walked up to the holodeck controls. What he was about to do was not only part of his ongoing research, but also something that would allow him some sense of ...relaxation. Stepping up to the controls, he said "Computer, run program Larel 34." Moments later he heard "Program loaded. Enter when ready." Stepping through the door, he waited a moment for it to vanish, and stepped out into the park like setting. All around him lush flowers and plans bloomed, and his extra-sensitive ears picked up a far off stream. He had always enjoyed the program, having designed it from memory. Walking further down the slope he was standing on, he saw some of his research 'specimens' . The specimens were actually holograms of the native species of the area, and were programmed to basically ignore him.

Still smiling, he watched as a dark haired woman laughed randomly, having not heard any reason for her to do so. All around him people were enjoying silent conversations. Such was the way of traditional Betazoids. The idea of being able to have an entire species and civilization develop without the real need for audible conversation had always been fascinating for him. He'd started the program back when he was a student at the University of Betazed. He theorized that telepathic conversation was actually more conducive to a functioning society as there was no need for subtlety and lying. He also had to admit that his research wasn't as complicated as it could have been. He freely admitted a certain kind of selfish pleasure in the program. Being around a major part of his being, due to him being half Betazoid, helped him to learn more about himself.

Taking a seat on a nearby bench, he made notes into the padd he was carrying. He knew the program wasn't going to provide him with the same results as experiencing them with live beings, but still being able to observe personal interactions was fascinating. Not knowing what was being said, but seeing the reaction to different thoughts and feelings was very interesting. His parents had encouraged him to explore his dual ancestry on his own terms, and he had tried to do so. As much as he didn't want to admit it, he found his Vulcan side to be at times a bit hard on the head. All the focus on logic and stifling one's emotions was sometimes frustrating. Putting down his padd, he opened the small case he'd carried with him and called up some department status reports. He'd thankfully been able to read through most of them, but there were some he'd been unable to get to. Leaning back, he kept one eye on his 'specimens' and began reading one of the stack of reports.
