Duty Log | CO | Capt. Eric Carpenter | "Master & Commander"

Mission: Where no man has gone before.

The new. Then unexplored. The hopes of all mankind.

These were what defined the mission of the USS Enterprise, and drove her captains. Archer, April, Pike, Kirk, Harriman, Garrett, Picard, Roberts - and now Carpenter.

As the ship approached Kiva V, they'd begun to spot low warp capable vessels in orbit around the planet. There was no doubt that by now, they should've spotted the Enterprise. A ship this large couldn't remain undetected forever, and low and behold, several ships that could only be classified as 'military' in origin, began to approach.

Their composition was dark sleek metal, with the traditional bi-nacelle layout, although they'd opted for an above/below style, rather than the Starfleet typical side-by-side. The ships were obviously military due to a design constant throughout the known universe, that military ships tended to look aggressive.

"Captain, we're receiving a hail from the lead ship approaching us. They're requesting our intentions." Sato-Pryce reported from Ops.

"Open a channel, Lieutenant." Eric said, and rose from his chair. "This is Captain Eric Carpenter of the Federation starship Enterprise."

The screen activated, and a humanoid appeared on the monitor. "I am Commander J'Kifa of the Kiverian Defense League. Why do you intrude on our space?"

"We are peaceful explorers from the United Federation of Planets. We have come to find new worlds and civilizations, to forge friendly bonds in a hope of understanding new people." Eric said.

"Your ship is formidable, you must be from a very powerful military." The Commander noted, presumably reading very primitive tactical scans of his vessel.

"Our ship is one of exploration, and peaceful contact, but we have by necessity, the ability to defend ourselves." Eric explained. "We would like to make peaceful contact with your government, is this permitted?"

"I will contact the Protector's office, and inform you of their decision." The Commander replied. "In the meantime, you are to maintain standard rotational position above our planet."

Eric nodded. "Very well. We look forward to hearing from the Protector."

The channel closed, and Eric looked over to his XO. "Interesting people."

Several minutes passed, as they sat there, admiring the view. After some more time passed, they received a message from the planet, informing them that the Protector had extended a wish to meet the new visitors.

"That's your cue, Commander." Eric said.

th'Zarath nodded. "Away team, assemble in transporter room 2."

"Keep me updated, Commander." Eric informed his departing first officer.

"Yes sir." He nodded, and took his leave.
