Joint Duty Log | CMO, CHELM | LtCmdr Rogers, M.D., & Ens Kieran | Chill Pill

Posted on 241402.28 @ 5:19pm by Lieutenant Scarlet Rogers MD & Ensign Aquila Kieran

Mission: Where no man has gone before.

=/\= Sickbay, Deck 10 =/\=

Ensign Kieran's mouth hung open a little as he entered the massive sickbay. He had heard stories of how larger ships sometimes serviced colonies or starbases as mobile hospitals, but it didn't seem to put the image into perspective until he actually stood inside one. There was even a small desk to take in patients or visitors.

Aquila walked up to the desk and looked around. Smiling a little at the person seated behind it, not really knowing how else to act. "Hi. I'm here for my initial physical, please." It sounded more like a question than anything else, but it was better than asking for a doctor and having missed a step somewhere in this process.

"That a question or a statement?" The doctor teased as she looked up, "Ensign."

Her question caught him off guard, he hadn't even noticed her rank as he approached. "Ma'am. Sorry ma'am. I was just told to report to sickbay for my check-in physical. If you're busy I can come back later. Anytime later." He could feel his face burning bright red. "If that's ok... ma'am."

"Firstly, stop calling me ma'am," she stood up and walked towards the ensign, "Call me Doctor if anything." Scarlet offered a smile, "Come with me and we'll do a quick medical." She showed him to a near biobed.

The helm officer's eyes barely stayed in one place as he followed the Doctor back to the rest of the sickbay. The shear number of biobeds was impressive enough, but the equipment was state of the art. Kieran had no real background in medical science, but he knew enough to know the tools and scanners before them were top of the line. It was impressive, but still did little to assuage his tight nerves. "Sorry, Doctor." He sat down on the bio bed in front of her, and self-consciously moved his hands in and out of his lap before finally putting them at rest on his thighs. "My first day."

"Cheer up, a bit," she smiled, "It;s everyone's first day one way or an other. It's my first day here," she picked up a tricorder, "Any symptoms of anything at all: headaches, sickness and so on?"

His mind raced to his post-hangover recovery. "I had a few drinks last night. But otherwise I feel ok." He eyeballed her tricorder as she took her scans of him. The little blinky hand-scanner seemed slightly louder than her remembered. "Quite a few drinks, I should say."

Kieran, having been spending his mental energy keeping his nerve in check, hadn't noticed how young the Doctor was. Normally he spent time with medical staff who teetered on the edges of 40, 50 or beyond. This woman was just barely older than himself, if he had to guess. Her beautiful red hair was tight and neat, her features weren't terrible to look at either. Setting aside she was far and beyond his position and rank... he found her kind of pretty.

"I'm sorry, Commander. Err... Doctor. I don't think I caught your name." Aquila asked, relaxing a little.

"Scarlet Rogers, and yours? Oh, and please answer my question as opposed to staring off in your own little world, I can only work with answers," she chuckled.

"Kieran Aquila," he paused, "remember the surname is first with Bajorans. You find anything wrong with me?"

"No, I can't find anything wrong with you, but I will prescribe you a chill pill," she smirked, "You need to calm down, everyone is in the same boat as you." She put her hand on his shoulder, "You're fine."

"What was your first day like? If you don't mind my asking." She may have been a Lieutenant Commander but her first day couldn't have been too many years ago. Unless... Another wave of nausea passed over him as he realized she might belong to a race of people who look like humans, but live centuries longer, such as El-Aurians. What if he put her off? Had he been obvious in his assumption of her age by asking a question like that? He began to open his mouth but quickly snapped it shut, thinking better of it.

"It wasn't too bad, had an excellent run in with the captain," she sighed, "What were you going to say before?" she had notice him begin to speak but not finish.

Noticing she's all but finished her scan of him, he smiled a little and jumped down from the biobed. "Nothing. Nothing." He couldn't really even bring himself to look her in the eyes. Everytime he tried he could just feel his face redden and his guts hollow out. Normally he was able to brush off the passing attraction to someone, especially given his seemingly endless ability to attract girls of every race, culture or creed. Drinking the night before may have been playing a part, or his genuine nervous attitude towards the ship as a whole, but he needed to get out before he said something stupid and inappropriate to another Senior Officer.

"Ah gee well," he looked off nowhere inparticular, and chuckled a little nervous laugh, "I've still got to meet with the XO and finish my pre-flight report! If we're all done here I better get going."

"He's fine to talk to, I promise you," she offered a friendly smile, "now get out of here."

Still moving towards the door, "If we missed anything I'll report back later this week." He smiled on his way out the door. "Thanks, Doctor."

"I'm sure you're fine," she sighed as he left.
