Valok smiled slightly at one of the astrometric experts as they brought all the lab's systems online. The lab hadn't really been used much, as it was a bit of a power drain on other ship systems. In terms of his investigation however, it would hopefully prove invaluable. As soon as the lab was fully online, he stepped up to the raised dais, and turning to his small team said "Ok everyone. We've got a mystery to solve. I know you've all read the brief, and are up to speed with what we're facing. It's not going to be an easy investigation, and I'm going to need all of you at 100%. Does anyone have any questions?"

After not seeing anyone raise a hand, he continued "Ok, so I believe our first step is to get some more intensive readings of the ... field that seems to be keeping all planetary bodies outside of the habitable zone. Whatever the field is, it is giving off strong gravometric readings. I want to know where it came from, and what exactly it is. You'll all be monitoring different aspects of the readings, and trying to make some sense of the raw data when it comes in." Without waiting any longer, he stepped down to the main console and entered some commands. Clearing his throat, he said "Computer, re-route main sensor array to the set coordinates. Calibrate it for intensive detailed scan." A long moment later, he heard "Calibration complete."

Knowing the next part would take a while, he said "Begin scan of the region outside of the habitable zone of the planet. Scan for gravometric readings, orbital patterns, asteroid compositions, etc. Compile readings into the following specific categories. " Entering a few more commands, he added "Begin scan." "Regional scan will take approximately 3 hours to complete, and approximately 1 hour to compile." Nodding, he called over his shoulder, "Settle in everyone. I want to have all of our systems working at peak efficiency once we receive that information. You all have your specific data to analyze. Let's get to work." Turning back to his console, he began reading up on some of the raw data they'd received during the initial scans of the planet. He was not only curious about the species that habitated it, but also wanted to know more about the planet's makeup itself.
